Rescue on White Thunder A Novel Adventure
Will They Make it
in Time?

One innocent morning, Mike Braddock and Jim Dunlap receive a call that will change the lives of many. A man named Spider, hell-bent on revenge, tells them that he and his crew are headed their way. The pastoral town of Pine Creek is put on alert based on the threats of a vicious motorcycle gang that manages to outsmart law enforcement every step of the way. Once there, they kidnap Annie, Braddock’s girlfriend, and take her to the crest of White Thunder mountain. To keep police and rescue teams at bay, Spider hatches a devious plan: set the mountain on fire. Leonard Laughing Bear, the local medicine man, must unleash the Great Thunderbird, the guardian Spirit that lives on White Thunder. Meanwhile, Braddock, fire crews, and rescue teams ascend the mountain to save Annie and put out the fires…but will they make it in time?

"I believe all stories contain an element of truth. Stories are the fabric of our lives – they create and sustain connections to our families, ancestors, and future generations. Stories weave magic and beg our imaginations to take a wild ride, transporting us to places only good stories can go. We don’t need to know exactly where the truth lies in a story but we can appreciate that the storyteller shared a part of him/herself in the telling. The skill lies in weaving together truth with imagination in such a way as to make a story worth telling, a story worth reading. A sprinkle here, a sprinkle there, like fairy dust scattered over a magic forest, interweaving strands of reality and dreams, creating imagery unique to each reader." D. Thunderhawk

Excerpts from Rescue on White Thunder:

"Thursday night rolled around again; Jim and Braddock rode their bikes to the B&B Room. Jim drove his customized ’88 Wide Glide with streetsweepers and mini ape-hangers while Braddock rode tall on his brand new, candy apple red Screaming Eagle painted with metallic swirls of mist surrounding a large red hawk. It was their weekly escape from work and family. Tommy and Cody were already there, shooting pool and drinking colas instead of beer. Wolf stayed home to tinker with his modified ‘65 Harley Panhead, which needed an oil change, and he figured he didn’t need the temptation anyway."

"Leonard Laughing Bear is a six-foot man in his mid-fifties with a stout build and broad shoulders designed for carrying the weight of the world.  Hair as thick as a Berber carpet flows freely down his back and is streaked with gray between strands of deep black. The lines on his face are a roadmap to the life history of an experienced elder. His left knee is bowed outward so when he walks he tilts a little to the left. His eyes are small, dark beads that glow with an intensity and hint of a deeper knowing, and are bordered by prominent cheekbones that seem carved from rock. He is a soft-spoken man with a velvety-toned voice that draws people in to listen attentively. He is a gifted storyteller."

“Hey, bro,” he said, easing into a black leather office chair, sipping his coffee. “I’ll be heading in soon. What’s up?” There was a moment’s hesitation as Braddock heard Jim sigh. This can’t be good, he thought. “Mike, you remember those guys we scuffled with years ago at Sturgis? Got arrested for aggravated assault, remember? They got sent up for aggravated assault or somethin’ like that, remember?”“Yeah, I remember them…” Braddock recalled the messy incident. “Real bad bunch of guys from some Southern bike gang, if I remember. Something like Alabama or Arkansas, right? They were the reason we had to leave the bike rally early. And they were the ones who started the fight to begin with…why bring all that up now? What’s going on, bro?” “Well,” Jim started slowly, not sure how to proceed. “You’re not gonna believe this, but those guys are out now. How do I know? ‘Cuz I just got a phone call, man, from some guy callin’ himself Spider. Says he and his buddies haven’t forgotten us and they’re heading our way, to show us how grateful they are for the prison time they served. Then the guy laughed, said we’d see ‘em soon and hung up. I haven’t told Tracy yet…I won’t let them hurt my family, man. What are we gonna do?”
